Honoring Protection

When narrowing has held something precious

Not everything that looks like limitation
is against life.

Sometimes it is protection,
and can be honored
for what it has held safe.

And in that honoring,
it becomes possible
to include
what once had to remain protected.

What seemed to narrow your world
may have been guarding
what was too tender,
too true,
too unnamed
to be lived openly.

The human may not yet have known
what it was protecting.

But the honoring was there.

And now,
nothing needs to be judged.

Not the protection.
Not the narrowing.
Not the time it took.

You can honor
the one who kept the inner yes safe,
and the one who is now ready
to let it live.
